Libby’s Experience
Libby has completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science at the University of Queensland and is in the final stages of completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Griffith University. Libby gained her early experience working in various community settings helping children and families to enhance emotion regulation and build resilience. Libby has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults facing a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem issues, grief, trauma, and parenting difficulties. Libby has spent the past 18 months working with the 4-Life Psychology Centre in a busy medical practice at Mt Gravatt. In this role, Libby has worked with a broad demographic from children to the elderly. It was in this role, that Libby developed a strong passion for working with women in primary health care and working collaboratively with doctors and other health professionals to help clients achieve greater life satisfaction.
Libby acknowledges the courage taken to seek help and values the importance of providing a non-judgmental and supportive therapeutic environment. Libby's therapeutic approach is strongly embedded in evidence-based psychological treatments including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and positive psychology approaches.
Libby’s thoughts on her role as a psychologist...
“I see my role as helping others to gain further clarity on their current situation, and to work collaboratively with them to help them acquire the necessary skills to bring about change in their life. I strongly value the importance of understanding my client’s difficulties and goals in order to design the most effective treatment, which is tailored to their individual needs. It is becoming increasingly recognised in society, that seeing a psychologist is not a sign of pathology but rather a sign of health, and a desire for greater well-being and life satisfaction. Engaging the help of a psychologist can be likened to attending Pilates to ‘strengthen’ certain muscles to help support our core stability and ability to perform at our optimal level. Indeed seeing a psychologist provides us with the opportunity to ‘strengthen’ certain thought patterns, responses and behaviours to enhance our ability to create a highly satisfying and meaningful life. “
