Group Programs

Group programs offer an economical and highly effective method of treatment for a range of recovery and development needs. We provide a number of group based programs in a number of areas including; treatment for depression, mindfulness meditation, stress management, coping with cancer, weight management and wellbeing.

Depression

We are trained providers of the Changeways Program for people with depression. This is a skills-based treatment program that will help you learn skills that can overcome depression. The skills also play a strong role in preventing the return of depression.

You can enroll if you are still depressed, or if you have already recovered from depression. This group is appropriate for people with either major depression dysthymia (prolonged, low-grade mood). Similarly, people who have bipolar disorder can also be accepted, if they have experienced depressive episodes.   In the groups, the facilitator will assist you to develop personal goals, and use the techniques needed to meet those goals. The Program
Step 1: Assessment
First we will meet individually with the client. We'll review your experience with depression, and make sure that the program is right for you. For example, are you ready to work on daily tasks? Can you participate in a group with ten other people? In the assessment, you can also ask any questions you might have.

Step 2: The Depression Group
The group consists of a series of eight weekly sessions. Some topics include:

  • Effects of thoughts and actions on emotions.
  • Strategies to define long-range goals, and to change goals into step-by-step plans.
  • Increase the ability to cope with stress.
  • The relationship between social life and mood, and how to improve social support.
  • Traps that slow recovery from depression.
  • Discover and change negative thinking.
  • Deal with setbacks and prevent relapse.



Social Anxiety

  • A Mindfulness and Acceptance based Group Therapy Program
    • 12 Sessions
    • 12 Participant Maximum
    • 1.5 hour per group session

Living with cancer

  • Mindful parenting in the context of breast cancer
  • Primary breast cancer therapeutic support group
  • Therapeutic support group for younger women with advanced breast cancer
